Jamaica is home to a diverse range of bird species, many of which are endemic to the island. Of the 328 species recorded in Jamaica, 27 are found nowhere else in the world. Some of the most notable birds found in Jamaica include the Doctor bird (also known as the Jamaican Swallowtail Hummingbird), which is the national bird of Jamaica. Other endemic bird species include the Jamaican tody, Jamaican vireo, and Jamaican blackbird. Jamaica also has a variety of migratory bird species, such as the American kestrel and the northern parula, that visit the island temporarily during their breeding and nesting seasons. Due to habitat loss and other factors, some of Jamaica's bird species are threatened or endangered, such as the Jamaican petrel and Jamaican owl. Conservation measures have been put in place to protect these unique species.
